When Duke’s owner was forced to move to Portland, Oregon, he could no longer keep his dog confined to the yard without a fence, especially in the winter. As a result, he made the difficult decision to rehome Duke with Lee Asher’s friend, Clint, who rendezvoused with Lee so he could take Duke to the sanctuary. Duke, who wasn’t doing well confined to the house, was better off in a safe environment where he could roam free.
Lee met up with Clint to pick up Duke, a sweet dog who found himself in a bad situation and was being rehomed through no fault of his own. However, Duke wasn’t neutered and this only compounded the problem. Lee hit it off with Dave right away and soon recognized that a lot of Duke’s problems were due to the fact that he was still a puppy who wasn’t fixed and probably lacked some training at a critical age like so many dogs who are rehomed between 8 months and 2 years old.
The screenshot of a YouTube video shows that Duke and Lee were taken to the sanctuary without getting Duke fixed, because they were worried that Duke’s owner might change his mind. So, Duke and Lee hit the road and drove to Asher House. Once there, Duke got a break and a new name, Dave (since the pack already had a Duke), and was able to meet the pack. He was a submissive puppy who soon fit right in with the rest of the male dogs and was getting a lot of attention since he wasn’t yet fixed.
Dave showed the pack how sweet his dog was, despite all the attention he was receiving. He played and had fun with all his new brothers and sisters at the sanctuary. If you didn’t know better, you would think that Dave and his dog had always lived there because they fit right in. It’s amazing that his dog was rescued and able to go to such a great home. He is simply adorable, and it will be exciting to watch all of his new adventures.
