Despite not being able to jump, a kitten struts confidently every day, thanks to someone who took a chance on him and saved his life.
Babar, a long-haired cream-colored kitten, was brought to Chatons Orphelins Montreal along with two other kittens in the hopes of finding a better life. He was rescued from a crowded situation and suffered from mobility issues and frailty due to a severe respiratory infection. Despite his challenges, Babar sought affection from people and simply wanted to be loved. The rescuer shared that he was the smallest and sickest of the three, with matted fur covering his skin and bones.
ChatonsOrphelins Montreal shared a story about Baba who was having difficulty breathing and was immediately given antibiotics. With careful care and numerous vet visits, he was able to recover from the persistent upper respiratory infection. However, they noticed that he couldn’t run or jump, but he could walk slowly with some difficulty in coordination. Despite this, he always tried his best to make every stride count.
The Montreal orphanage, ChatonsOrphelins, shared that Baba has been diagnosed with a rare condition called myotonia, which affects the muscles and causes them to take longer to relax after a contraction. As a result, Baba cannot jump or kick with his hind legs and has difficulty getting up and down from the couch on his own. If he attempts to jump, he freezes, but he is able to walk without any issues on the floor.
Babar was very affectionate with his foster family. Whenever they went on a walk together, he would pause after a bit of walking and stroll up to his people for head scratches. “He walks like a penguin in a slow, jerky way. He can be assisted to the windows with a ramp or go up and down the couch with some help.”
Chatons Orphelins Montreal reports that since gaining newfound strength, Baba has become more active and playful. He enjoys strolling around, honing his gait, and giving his best strut every day. He also started having fun following other cats around the house. Although he is small in size and walks a bit differently, all these quirks make him even more endearing.
Babar enjoys walking with his human companions in Montreal. As a skilled napper, he embodies the wisdom of an old cat. Sleeping is his favorite pastime which he excels at. “He may be a bit slow with his reflexes, but that’s okay,” says his companion. Babar doesn’t groom himself and prefers to be brushed instead. He often falls asleep with his mouth open when held in arms.
Babar, an orphan cat from Montreal, loves to sleep more than anything else. Although he can’t jump or run due to his hind legs, he is quite resourceful and goes wherever he wants. He moves at his own pace and enjoys the world around him. Babar adores other cats and kittens, and they motivate him to stay active. While he likes feather toys, nothing beats sleeping in the sun or watching the day go by according to his owner.
Baba has an undeniable love for life and other cats. When it was time for Baba to find a forever home, the rescue began their search for a special family that would be committed to giving him the best life possible. After almost four months of being rescued, Baba’s dream finally came true.
